chrismyi said: Hi, I'm currently a highschool student looking towards animation or illustration in the future, and I'm so glad I stumbled upon your blog. It's weird because I love to draw cartoons and little characters similarly to your style, and I really like your sketches(: I'm actually considering the college you are attending, and was wondering just in general what it's like and whether the acceptance rate is low or high? Also, what other art colleges would you suggest I look into? Thanks(:
Thank you!:D Hmmm where to begin…let’s just say I absolutely love SCAD so far! I love Savannah, I love the environment, and I really like the people that go here. There’s a ton to do all the time, there’s never a dull moment. As far as classes go, I feel like I’m really learning a lot, the faculty is amazing. I haven’t gone into any animation or illustration classes yet, but I’ve heard that you learn an absolute ton from them. I do have to warn you though, if you want to go here, you will have to make sure you can handle a ton of work almost non-stop. Just make sure you’re ready to work hard! I promise you’ll get a lot out of it!
As far as acceptance rate goes, I would say as long as you have good grades and an adequate SAT/ACT score, you’ll probably get in. They do care about your portfolio, but grades and transcript tends to trump over artistic skill.
The other colleges I looked at were Maryland Institute College of Art, Pratt in Brooklyn, and Columbus College of Art and Design. At the time I wasn’t looking for an animation major though, I was looking at college for more of an Illustration major. I would say if you’re going down a path for animation, I would check out Ringling in Florida, SVA, and if you really want a fantabulous college experience with animation but want to go through a tough application process and a very strenuous workload, check out CalArts. I’ve heard wondrous things about their program.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
